TV and Radio Recordings: 1-14 Jan 2011

The following programmes will be recorded during the weeks: 1-14 Jan 2011.
TV Recordings:

Title: The Golden Age of Coach Travel
Description: Documentary which journeys back to the 1950s, when the coach
was king. From its early origins in the charabanc, the coach
had always been the people’s form of transport. Cheaper
and more flexible than the train, it allowed those who had
travelled little further than their own villages and towns a
first taste of exploration and freedom. Whole communities
crammed into coach after coach en route to pleasure spots
like Blackpool, Margate and Torquay. With singsongs, toilet
stops and the obligatory pub halt, the journey was all part
of the adventure
Broadcast: 5 Jan 2011, 21:00 (60 mins)
Channels: BBC4

Title: Michel Roux’s Service
Description: Great service matters almost more to Michel Roux than great
food. He believes waiters and sommeliers are the unsung
stars of the restaurant world; their brilliance transforming
an ordinary meal into an unforgettable experience. In this
new series, Michel is on a personal mission to train eight
young people as front-of-house superstars, none of whom have
previously considered this as a career. But this isn’t
just about transforming these young people into great
waiters. Good service involves discipline, care for others
and self confidence so, for Michel, learning to serve others
will mean developing essential life skills. In the first
episode, Michel’s trainees experience the brilliance of
Michelin starred service before cutting their teeth in the
busy world of the High Street restaurant. Serving over 100
customers on Saturday night, Michel gets to see just what
his new recruits are made of.

Title: The Modern Age of Coach Travel
Description: Documentary which brings the story of the coach up to date,
as it explores the most recent phase of Britain’s love
affair with group travel on four wheels - from school trips
and football awaydays to touring with bands and overland
treks to India. The establishment of the National Coach
Company may have standardised the livery and the experience
of mainstream coach travel in the 70s, but a multitude of
alternative offerings meant the coach retained its hold on
the public imagination, with even striking miners and New
Age travellers getting in on a very British act

Channels: BBC4
