Inside Asprey: Luxury by Royal Appointment
Description:
Asprey is a British institution which stands on one of
London's most prestigious thoroughfares, New
Bond Street,
and
has been trading in luxury goods for over 230 years. It
is
popular with high net worth customers, whose desire for
the
finest quality coupled with personalised service means
that
they are prepared to pay a premium. This documentary
follows the work of the staff, the store and the customers
over
the course of one summer. In the workshop above the
emporium are the highly-skilled
silversmiths, who craft much
of
the merchandise by hand. Founded as a silk-printing
business by William Asprey in 1781, the company soon became
a
byword for elegance. Early clients included J Pierpont
Morgan, the Maharaja of Patiala and Queen Mary, and the
store still carries a royal warrant from the Prince of
Wales. This documentary reveals the ups and downs of the
business and gives a glimpse of a
fascinating world
